Sleep Issues in Primary Care: The Sleeping Giant
Expert faculty discuss sleep disorders and how common they are; the serious consequences that sleep disorders can have; the issue of underdiagnosed sleep disorders in primary care; and a sleep disorders primer for primary care providers. The best practices in screening and diagnosis, as well as how and when to refer a patient to a specialist, are also discussed in this prerecorded presentation.

Intended Audience
The intended target audience for this program is primary care physicians (PCPs).

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the role of primary care in screening for and diagnosing sleep disorders
  • Recognize the symptoms of multiple etiologies of sleep disorders
  • Administer and interpret office-based sleep disorder screening tools
  • Describe the steps for diagnosing insomnia, OSA, RLS, circadian rhythm disorders, and narcolepsy
  • Determine when to refer a patient to a sleep specialist

CME Credit
